    A Dynamic Scheduling Method of Earth-Observing Satellites by Employing Rolling Horizon Strategy

    Focused on the dynamic scheduling problem for earth-observing satellites (EOS), an integer programming model is constructed after analyzing the main constraints. The rolling horizon (RH) strategy is proposed according to the independent arriving time and deadline of the imaging tasks. This strategy is designed with a mixed triggering mode composed of periodical triggering and event triggering, and the scheduling horizon is decomposed into a series of static scheduling intervals. By optimizing the scheduling schemes in each interval, the dynamic scheduling of EOS is realized. We also propose three dynamic scheduling algorithms by the combination of the RH strategy and various heuristic algorithms. Finally, the scheduling results of different algorithms are compared and the presented methods in this paper are demonstrated to be efficient by extensive experiments

    Imaging Tasks Scheduling for High-Altitude Airship in Emergency Condition Based on Energy-Aware Strategy

    Aiming to the imaging tasks scheduling problem on high-altitude airship in emergency condition, the programming models are constructed by analyzing the main constraints, which take the maximum task benefit and the minimum energy consumption as two optimization objectives. Firstly, the hierarchy architecture is adopted to convert this scheduling problem into three subproblems, that is, the task ranking, value task detecting, and energy conservation optimization. Then, the algorithms are designed for the sub-problems, and the solving results are corresponding to feasible solution, efficient solution, and optimization solution of original problem, respectively. This paper makes detailed introduction to the energy-aware optimization strategy, which can rationally adjust airship’s cruising speed based on the distribution of task’s deadline, so as to decrease the total energy consumption caused by cruising activities. Finally, the application results and comparison analysis show that the proposed strategy and algorithm are effective and feasible

    Real-time Monitoring for the Next Core-Collapse Supernova in JUNO

    Core-collapse supernova (CCSN) is one of the most energetic astrophysical events in the Universe. The early and prompt detection of neutrinos before (pre-SN) and during the SN burst is a unique opportunity to realize the multi-messenger observation of the CCSN events. In this work, we describe the monitoring concept and present the sensitivity of the system to the pre-SN and SN neutrinos at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), which is a 20 kton liquid scintillator detector under construction in South China. The real-time monitoring system is designed with both the prompt monitors on the electronic board and online monitors at the data acquisition stage, in order to ensure both the alert speed and alert coverage of progenitor stars. By assuming a false alert rate of 1 per year, this monitoring system can be sensitive to the pre-SN neutrinos up to the distance of about 1.6 (0.9) kpc and SN neutrinos up to about 370 (360) kpc for a progenitor mass of 30M⊙M_{\odot} for the case of normal (inverted) mass ordering. The pointing ability of the CCSN is evaluated by using the accumulated event anisotropy of the inverse beta decay interactions from pre-SN or SN neutrinos, which, along with the early alert, can play important roles for the followup multi-messenger observations of the next Galactic or nearby extragalactic CCSN.Comment: 24 pages, 9 figure

    A Coordinated Vehicle–Drone Arc Routing Approach Based on Improved Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search

    Through urban traffic patrols, problems such as traffic congestion and accidents can be found and dealt with in time to maintain the stability of the urban traffic system. The most common way to patrol is using ground vehicles, which may be inflexible and inefficient. The vehicle–drone coordination maximizes utilizing the flexibility of drones and addresses their limited battery capacity issue. This paper studied a vehicle–drone arc routing problem (VD-ARP), consisting of one vehicle and multiple drones. Considering the coordination mode and constraints of the vehicle–drone system, a mathematical model of VD-ARP that minimized the total patrol time was constructed. To solve this problem, an improved, adaptive, large neighborhood search algorithm (IALNS) was proposed. First, the initial route planning scheme was generated by the heuristic rule of “Drone-First, Vehicle-Then”. Then, several problem-based neighborhood search strategies were embedded into the improved, adaptive, large neighborhood search framework to improve the quality of the solution. The superiority of IALNS is verified by numerical experiments on instances with different scales. Several critical factors were tested to determine the effects of coordinated traffic patrol; an example based on a real road network verifies the feasibility and applicability of the algorithm

    A Particle Swarm Optimization Variant with an Inner Variable Learning Strategy

    Although Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has demonstrated competitive performance in solving global optimization problems, it exhibits some limitations when dealing with optimization problems with high dimensionality and complex landscape. In this paper, we integrate some problem-oriented knowledge into the design of a certain PSO variant. The resulting novel PSO algorithm with an inner variable learning strategy (PSO-IVL) is particularly efficient for optimizing functions with symmetric variables. Symmetric variables of the optimized function have to satisfy a certain quantitative relation. Based on this knowledge, the inner variable learning (IVL) strategy helps the particle to inspect the relation among its inner variables, determine the exemplar variable for all other variables, and then make each variable learn from the exemplar variable in terms of their quantitative relations. In addition, we design a new trap detection and jumping out strategy to help particles escape from local optima. The trap detection operation is employed at the level of individual particles whereas the trap jumping out strategy is adaptive in its nature. Experimental simulations completed for some representative optimization functions demonstrate the excellent performance of PSO-IVL. The effectiveness of the PSO-IVL stresses a usefulness of augmenting evolutionary algorithms by problem-oriented domain knowledge

    Regulation of the Neurospora Circadian Clock by the Spliceosome Component PRP5

    Increasing evidence has pointed to the connection between pre-mRNA splicing and the circadian clock; however, the underlying mechanisms of this connection remain largely elusive. In the filamentous fungus Neurospora crassa, the core circadian clock elements comprise White Collar 1 (WC-1), WC-2 and FREQUENCY (FRQ), which form a negative feedback loop to control the circadian rhythms of gene expression and physiological processes. Previously, we have shown that in Neurospora, the pre-mRNA splicing factors Pre-mRNA-processing ATP-dependent RNA helicase 5 (PRP5), protein arginine methyl transferase 5 (PRMT5) and snRNA gene U4-2 are involved in the regulation of splicing of frq transcripts, which encode the negative component of the circadian clock system. In this work we further demonstrated that repression of spliceosomal component sRNA genes, U5, U4-1, and prp5, affected the circadian conidiation rhythms. In a prp5 knockdown strain, the molecular rhythmicity was dampened. The expression of a set of snRNP genes including prp5 was up-regulated in a mutant strain lacking the clock component wc-2, suggesting that the function of spliceosome might be under the circadian control. Among these snRNP genes, the levels of prp5 RNA and PRP5 protein oscillated. The distribution of PRP5 in cytosol was rhythmic, suggesting a dynamic assembly of PRP5 in the spliceosome complex in a circadian fashion. Silencing of prp5 caused changes in the transcription and splicing of NCU09649, a clock-controlled gene. Moreover, in the clock mutant frq9, the rhythmicity of frq I-6 splicing was abolished. These data shed new lights on the regulation of circadian clock by the pre-RNA splicing, and PRP5 may link the circadian clock and pre-RNA splicing events through mediating the assembly and function of the spliceosome complex
